Wondering what are the Do's and Don’ts when visiting the Island of Fernando de Noronha?

If you’re planning a trip to the remote island of Fernando de Noronha, here are a few things you may want to keep in mind

Do's and Don’ts in the Island of Fernando de Noronha

  • Make bookings in advance, especially if you are travelling during the peak seasons of July or October to March
  • Take your regular medications and basic travel medicines with you. Though there is a pharmacy on the island, the stocks are limited, and if they don’t have what you need, you will have no option but to fly back to the mainland.
  • Take a lot of sunscreen with you as the sun is quite harsh here.
  • Learn some basic Portuguese before you go, as most of the locals do not speak English.
  • Take lots of cash with you as you will not be able to use your credit card or travelers cheques at most places.
  • Conserve water as shortages are common on the island.
  • Pick up a map of the island from the airport, as you will need this to get around.
  • Take light clothes as Fernando de Noronha is warm throughout the year.
  • Make it a point to observe the spinning dolphins and turtle nesting activities, the two main highlights on the island.

  • Violate the rules and regulations of the protected areas. You will be penalized.
  • Bring in any pet animals or plants onto the island and these can affect its delicate ecosystem
  • Camp or stay overnight outdoors or make a fire anywhere on the island.
  • Expect it to be a cheap holiday, especially during the peak season. The remoteness and exclusivity allow the hotels to be able to charge high rates.
  • Forget to keep well hydrated at all times, as the heat could easily make you dehydrated.
